Omeprazole: 370 mg (37% w/w).
Paste excipients q.s. to 1 g.

PRESENTATION

Adjustable oral syringe containing 6.15 g of paste, equivalent to approximately 2.28 g of omeprazole.

Reference packs: 7 or 72 syringes.

DESCRIPTION

A proton-pump inhibitor that suppresses gastric acid secretion.

INDICATIONS

Treatment and prevention of recurrence of gastric ulcers in horses and foals aged 4 weeks or older.

DOSAGE — TREATMENT

Administer orally once daily at 4 mg omeprazole per kg body weight for 28 days.

One complete syringe treats a horse weighing approximately 568 kg (1,250 lb). Adjust the syringe to the horse’s actual body weight.

DOSAGE — PREVENTION OF RECURRENCE

After treatment, administer 2 mg omeprazole per kg body weight orally once daily for at least another 28 days.

At this maintenance dose, a horse weighing 568 kg requires approximately half a syringe.

ADMINISTRATION

Set the syringe plunger to the correct weight marking. Place the paste on the back of the tongue, ensuring that the horse’s mouth contains no feed.

PRECAUTIONS

Safety has not been established in pregnant or lactating mares.

Do not use in horses intended for human consumption.

Use under veterinary prescription.

STORAGE

Store at 20–25°C. Temperature excursions between 15–30°C are permitted.

DOGS

The original GASTROGARD label is for horses and provides no canine dosing instructions. Any canine use requires a separate veterinary prescription and an accurately measured dose; no arbitrary syringe fraction is assigned.

FORMULATION & REFERENCE

The active ingredient, concentration and syringe size follow the original GASTROGARD label. The previous lansoprazole, bismuth, enzymes, acids, vitamins and minerals have been removed.

The proprietary excipient recipe is not disclosed; identical formulation performance cannot be inferred from the active concentration alone.
