CEFTIONIX® Injection

Composition

Each ml contains:

  • Ceftiofur (as ceftiofur sodium or hydrochloride) …… 50 mg

  • Excipients ……………………………………………………………… q.s. to 1 ml

(Standard concentration for 100-ml ceftiofur injectable products)


Pharmacological Class

Third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic (β-lactam)


Indications

CEFTIONIX® Injection is indicated for the treatment of bacterial infections caused by ceftiofur-sensitive organisms in animals, including:

Cattle

  • Bovine Respiratory Disease (BRD) caused by
    Mannheimia haemolytica, Pasteurella multocida, Histophilus somni

  • Acute interdigital necrobacillosis (foot rot)

  • Acute postpartum metritis

  • Acute mastitis caused by E. coli

Swine

  • Respiratory disease caused by Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae, Pasteurella multocida

  • Septicemia and polyserositis

Ceftiofur provides broad-spectrum bactericidal activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative pathogens and is stable against β-lactamase enzymes.


Dosage and Administration

Routes:

  • Intramuscular (IM)

  • Subcutaneous (SC)

Recommended dosage:

Cattle

  • 1 mg ceftiofur/kg body weight
    (Equivalent to 1 ml per 50 kg BW)

  • Once daily for 3–5 days

Swine

  • 3 mg ceftiofur/kg body weight
    (Equivalent to 1 ml per 16–17 kg BW)

  • Once daily for 3 days

Inject into the neck region only.
Do not exceed 10 ml per injection site.

Cattle and swine


Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to ceftiofur, cephalosporins, or other β-lactam antibiotics

  • Do not use in animals with known severe allergic reactions to β-lactams

  • Not intended for use in poultry


Precautions

  • For veterinary use only

  • Use under veterinary supervision

  • Do not administer intravenously

  • Observe aseptic injection technique

  • Avoid accidental self-injection

  • Do not mix with other injectable products in the same syringe

  • Keep out of reach of children


Withdrawal Period

(Subject to national regulatory approval)

Cattle

  • Meat: Typically 3–4 days

  • Milk: 0 hours (often nil withdrawal)

Swine

  • Meat: Typically 3–5 days

(Always confirm exact withdrawal periods according to local regulations and formulation type)


Storage

  • Store below 25°C

  • Protect from light

  • Do not freeze

  • Keep container tightly closed

  • Use within recommended period after first broaching
